That time of the month rolls around and suddenly the gym feels like a punishment instead of a plan. Most people either push through a brutal workout or skip movement completely. Both usually backfire, lol!
The truth is your body just wants something softer for a few days. Not nothing, just softer.
So I scrolled through a ridiculous number of pins looking for ideas that actually make sense on a low day. I kept the ones that felt doable on the couch, in leggings, with zero pressure attached.
Below you’ll find 10 ideas that range from full stretch sessions to walks around the block. Some are barely movement at all. That’s the whole point!
Pick whatever matches your energy that day. Nobody is grading this, promise.
Under each idea I’ve added a few details worth knowing, plus a link where it applies. Let’s get into it.
PERIOD FRIENDLY WORKOUT IDEAS
Slow Pilates Core Reset
We’re starting off strong with a slow Pilates core reset. This is one of the best these out there because it works the core without a single jump or crunch.
Think slow leg circles, gentle bridges and a whole lot of breathing. It sounds too easy until you feel it the next morning, haha!
- No jumping required
- Works fine on a yoga mat
- Twenty minutes tops
- Feels stronger than it looks
Bedroom Floor Stretch Routine
This bedroom floor stretch routine needs nothing but a rug and five spare minutes. Roll out onto the floor, hug your knees in and just breathe there for a while.
A folded blanket under your hips makes the whole thing feel ten times better. Not that I’m fussy about props or anything, haha!
- Straight off the bedroom floor
- No mat needed
- Pairs well with a heating pad
- Five minutes changes everything
Low Impact Cardio Dance
Low impact cardio dance is exactly what it sounds like. No jumping jacks, no burpees, just swaying and shuffling to whatever song comes on.
This one gets the blood moving without wrecking your energy for the rest of the day.
- Dance party for one
- No equipment involved
- Music does most of the work
- Good for a rainy afternoon
Comfy Leggings Workout Vibes
Comfy leggings workout vibes are basically half the motivation here. Put on the soft pair, not the tight compression ones. Suddenly movement feels less like a chore.
Add a big sweatshirt and slippers for the full effect. Comfort first, effort second, that’s the rule this week.
Slow Motion Living Room Workout
Slow motion living room workout days are for the ones where the couch is winning. This is one of the best low energy day workout ideas because it barely counts as exercise. That’s exactly the appeal.
Move at half speed through a few basic stretches or squats. There’s no rush and honestly no goal, either.
- Barely counts as a workout
- Ten minutes is plenty
- Works in socks
- No timer needed
Soft Morning Stretch Session
A soft morning stretch session sets the tone before your day even starts. This is one of the gentlest gentle movement ideas around. It only takes a few minutes flat on your back.
Reach the arms overhead, roll the shoulders and let the spine wake up slowly. Same energy every single morning, lol!
- Before coffee, not instead of it
- Fits right in bed
- Wakes up the whole spine
Neighborhood Sunset Walk Idea
Sunset walks around the neighborhood are one of my favorite stretch and walk day ideas because the light does half the work of making you feel good. Slow pace, no headphones required.
The cooler evening air helps more than people expect. Bring a hoodie, though; fair warning, it gets chilly fast this time of year.
Park Bench Stretch Break
A park bench becomes a full stretching station if you know where to press. Prop a heel on the seat for a hamstring stretch or hold the backrest for a shoulder opener.
Nobody at the park will even look twice, promise. This one turns an ordinary walk into something a little more restorative.
- The bench doubles as equipment
- No mat required
- Great mid walk pause
- Works with any park bench
Cozy Blanket Rest Ritual
Some days the only movement that makes sense is wrapping yourself in a blanket. This is one of the best restorative day ideas because rest genuinely counts as recovery, not laziness.
Grab a book, a cup of tea and a heating pad. No shame in that.
Candlelit Restorative Yoga Setup
Last but definitely not least, we have a candlelit restorative yoga setup. Dim the lights, prop some pillows under your knees and hold a few gentle poses for as long as feels good.
Child’s pose and legs up the wall are the real MVPs here. This is the closest thing to a spa night without leaving your living room, haha!
- Spa night, zero cost
- Just a candle and pillows
